This is an interesting photo, for several reasons,

58fffg.png

It is dated 1940 for the launch of the new Mercedes model, appears to be a 770 of some sort,

Unsure if it is an MB press photo (these normally have little numbers in the corner) or from a newspaper or other source.

The Three wheel car, now someone please correct me here, but my understanding is in all the pictures we see of the 3 wheel car today are reproductions, so I wonder at this time if this car is an original? And destroyed during the war through bombing or other means?

Maybe Hans? Styria? know a bit more? The uniforms are for NSKK, a type of motoring club and driving pool for the nazis

Des when I was at the Mercedes Benz museum last year the oldest surviving car was on display, a Simplex car

Very little was left of mercedes or Germany
After the bombing I would have a guess these are were lost during that time

As you say an interesting photo but not really appropriate for a forum

You certainly raise an interesting question here Des. Much was lost to the world during the War - on both sides. You are asking if such three-wheelers remain. I suggest you contact the Mercedes Museum who should be able to answer this question for you, or even Merecedes-Benz Classic (the magazine).
The history of the automobile is always fascinating to explore. For example, I used to wonder why there are so many Minervas in Australia. The answer it appears, is that before the war we sold much of our wool clip to Belgium for the carpet trade and were paid in Minervas under a special agreement set up by the Belgian government to encourage the growth of secondary industry in Belgium.
A particularly fine Minerva is about to hit the market in Sydney and, despite the current economic crisis, I am going to make a bid for it. There are times when I feel the PII is a little lonely and needs a friend in the shed.
Note to self; buy a shed!!!

Hi Des, unfortunately I am unable to help with any details. Mind you though, time and again whenever I see photos of some of the large pre-war Benzes, I just marvel at their pictorial presence.

I still don't know how Mercedes got up off the canvas and produced cars like the 300 Adenauers and others so early in the '50's. What a recovery. Regards Styria
