No new car...

I was at MBS today picking up some spare parts and found a demonstrator C250 Wagon AMG Line that really looked like a useful dog carrier for the 2018 litter of pups ......
Nice fitting, nice drive, plenty of room in the rear compartment, sharp price and a most attractive colour combination plus a very keen salesperson.
So what was wrong? Well, I almost needed a walking stick to get out of the bloody thing; the seats were soooooooooo low and hip-hugging that the only way to get out was to roll out in a most ungracious and less than athletic style.
Hmmm - looks like the cars I have are safe for the time; at least I climb up into them rather than fall in and land in a heap on the seat.

Test drive the wagon does not sound impressive at all.

The C250 was fine Tim - just too low to the ground for those of us who are aging...

Or, you could take over my recent purchase - a 1951 DKW F89. No problem there sitting too low. And no, the one in the photo is not mine. Mine is mechanically restored, but needs the body repaired and painted and upholstery etc. It is however believed to be the original car that came into Australia and displayed at the Melbourne Motor Show.

The latest C class is nice, but very small. Not driven the wagon but the drivers door is likely the same wagon vs sedan.

The E Class wagon on the other hand is much bigger and more practical. Its the way to go if you want a mercedes that is nice to drive and has lots of cargo capacity, but you don't like SUVs.

Interestingly enough, I checked the specs on the interior room in my S211 and found its actually a couple of cm wider than a W126. I just installed 3 child seats across the back and it fits very well. Today's E class is about the same size as yesterdays S class...
