Motor Drive SL500

Hi guys just bought the latest Motor magazine not very complimentary about new SL 500 . Openning paragraph on drive revue in Spain THIS CAR ITS AWFUL AM I WRONG IS IT THAT BAD ? . Chassis engineer Karl_Heinz Roll admits that car is better with steel springs . Electric steering gives very bad steering responce but saves fuel so there . The final paragraph THE BASICS OF AN EXCELLENT CAR ARE ALL THERE BUT IT FEELS DISTURBINGLY UNDER BLENDED AND OUT OF SYNC . BENZ CANT LET THE SL CARRY ON AS A SUB STANDARD FLAGSHIP . BUT ITS DEFICIENCIES DONT SEEM INSURMOUNTABLE . Not a very encouraging revue i hope they get in right and it is not another Moose test like the A Class .

 

[Oversize]

The initial pics looked quite good, but I did have reservations on the shape of the headlights. Current pics in a different colour and I really don't like the front and the rear curves down on a strange angle, messing up the profile. If it doesn't handle or perform well either, that's very bad news....

I think the reviewers are expecting the SL500 to be the performance pinnicle and seem to have almost lost sight of the fact that the SL63 has yet to arrive. That should be far more performance orientated and hopefully even more refined (re steering and transmission), plus look a bit better with bigger wheels and some styling enhancements... The 500 is more a luxury open top cruiser and should be treated as such.
