It's on again this weekend.
I am planning to go, its also an official MBCNSW event for those who are a member and don't want to use a logbook entry!

Would you mind giving us some more details, or perhaps if there's a website we can access?

I think it is about time to take a run in "Gleaming Beauty". Thanks to the efforts of Bryce and his pictorial coverage, I have been wanting to take part ever since last year when I first heard of the monthly gatherings that take place. The variety of cars is impressive, and owner simply attend to show off their pride and joys.
Maybe there might be others from TK that could attend, and certainly with the variety of cars in Michel's collection, a number of his cars would well take pride of place. Anyhow, I know that both Bryce and myself will be in attendance, and I am really looking forward to seeing some of those magnificent cars. Regards. Styria

I am aiming to attend the St Ives Showground Auto Brunch on Sunday.
But I still have not decided which car I will take.
Look forward to seeing many of you up there. ;)

Michel, it will be good to see you. You may not know, but Bryce may only be in attendance for a short period of time. I am also hoping that my oldest sun Richard will be able to put in an appearance. Last time he went to a club assembly, he finished up purchasing a Rover 3500S, the model with the manual 4 speed transmission.

I took Gleaming Beauty for a shake-down run to Minchinbury in preparation for Sunday's event. It's the first time that GB has been used in well over a year. She's been parked at Seven Hills where I have moved to from Glenorie, and has provided sterling service as a "mule" to test various hydraulic suspension components for various owners. It is absolutely remarkable that she has started each and every time for the last two years at the turn of the key. It is hard to believe, but there has been no fouling of plugs, no undue oil smoke, and it has to be at least two hundred times that she has been started to power up the pressure oil pump, levelling valves and also when we have checked atms pressures in the Air Cells. I was a little apprehensive before I set off this morning as I didn't know what to expect. You know, such a long time since a wheel has been turned. I checked the transmission fluid level (needed 250 mil), Coolant was spot on, engine oil was up to the full mark AND still surprisingly clean - as if the oil had been changed a couple of weeks ago. Well, it's at least eighteen months. I also checked tyre pressures, and increased pressure to the normal reading of 40 lbs/sq.in. as I have low profile tyres - 235.45.18 which, incidentally, are getting on in years.

How did she drive ? Well, surprisingly well all things considered. Brakes pull slightly to the right on initial pedal application, one of the Air Cells does need replacement (I suspect the left rear, or front) but all of those symptoms were there last time I drove the car. It still goes like a scolded cat when you put your foot down, I saw no blue smoke from the exhaust on brisk acceleration, only petrol smoke (not all that bad) and the quality of ride even with the one suspect Air Cell was still superior to the Captiva, and a long way in front of a 6.9 that used to belong to David Rollason with its 450 Centre Differential. The noise is still toxic when accelerating and there is torque available at any time, and plenty of it, and that's what a high compression engine should give you. The tyres felt good, and Gleaming Beauty's ride quality is firm and "wooden" but never harsh. No, it's a great compromise when compared with more modern cars. See you on Sunday - I am going to be early. Regards Styria

If you're still keen to sell the RED TERROR perhaps bring that one with a for sale sign in the window?

I'd like to Bryce, but it' not ready.
Needs a serious tune up and detail.
I'm tossing between the silver CLK320 convertible (for sale) or the red CLK430 (not for sale).

Michel, whichever car, it will be good to see you. It's been quite a long time. I aim to be early to ensure that I can spend time with Bryce, and I personally may also be a little restricted time wise on account of a most important family event. I will endeavour to leave about twelvish. A really good friend, some of you who have met him at the Motor Museum, is also likely to turn up with his 6.9. BTW, what's wrong with the Red Terror ? You haven't mentioned anything previously. Regards Styria

I took off early this morning to do a bit of shopping, but to also check height of my front suspension set-up that I had modified last night. The height is much better now (a little lower), and I also managed to ascertain that it is the left front Air Cell that requires replacement. It is with some pride that I can relate to comments by two people. Young guy that reckoned the car was huge and looked smashing, and another by a Service Station cashier that recalled new W116s in 1978 when she lived in Cairo. They were absolutely beautiful cars.20210306_083436.jpg

To be honest Bryce, I am not even certain that he will show. I did mention it to him about a week ago, but no word from him since. The Rover 3500S is somewhat of a problem child. I spent a day and a half on the car dismantling and tuning the carburettors, but it bothers me to relate that I have actually made it a little worse. It is not an easy car to drive with a heavy clutch and also an accelerator pedal action that's a bit like a sling shot - now you've got little, then you've got the lot - very little in between. It took me about half an hour to drive the car smoothly. In addition, he's also now bought the 6cylinder version of a 1917 (?) Black Edition Commodore - apparently the last of the attractive and desirable Commodores. He was unable to source the V8 model at anywhere near a reasonable price. From what I believe, no one seems to want the later model Commodores. Regards Styria

Talking about "bodies" facing up - we should not forget our very learned Auto Gearbox specialist named Sean - for you Sean, St. Ives Showground is only a hop and a jump away. Perhaps you can make it. I am also thinking of Benz Boy - he's got a couple of nice, shiny cars that would be a welcome addition. How about it Brian ? Any chance ? It would be good to see you again after many months. Regards Styria

....and not to forget Stevie his partner.

.....and then we've got Helmet - beautiful 220SE Coupe, very, very nice 6.9 with that beautiful upholstery. I know you're a long way Peter, but maybe....?

Godfather,
The Red Terror needs to be looked at.
It's been ignored for too long. I think the plugs need looking at or replaced and I want to take it for a long drive before I go in public with it.
I have spent a few hours today washing and claying the CLK320 convertible and will turn up tomorrow early with Jerry, who agreed to come for the drive. We're aiming to leave at around 7:30 from Prestons.
Like you, I have a commitment around lunch time so I will probably leave around 11-11:30.

I assume that these are attributes of this particular car, vs the model in general? I never read any of the period reviews noting the clutch as being very heavy etc.

It was a very busy and rather well attended event. My initial impression related to finding a parking spot and it didn't take me long to arrive at the decision that for me this would be "first and last time". However, one should not be so hasty in decision making. What I would change is my time of arrival - much earlier than 8.30 - I think 7.15 would be closer to the mark. It was pleasing to meet up with Bryce and Michel - I instantly felt more comfortable, and once I had found a parking spot, I was then able to look around and grab some photos - which I would like to show here. Not nearly as many as Bryce, but some. Also, I should not forget to mention that Parks put in an appearance with his two beautiful children, although the boy (Jack) was a bit of a handful. Right, now let me find some pics.20210307_092322.jpg20210307_092329.jpg20210307_092338.jpg20210307_092438.jpg20210307_092443.jpg20210307_092605.jpg20210307_092913.jpg20210307_093147.jpg20210307_093207.jpg20210307_093219.jpg20210307_093443.jpg
