VW Duel Clutch Auto

Just watched a disassembly video of the 7 speed Duel clutch Auto. Brilliant, complex design. But be afraid be very afraid ! It is mind boggling complex, and far from trouble free. Also a similar video on the 1.4 Turbo Engine.
Very sophisticated
to obtain the Power and fuel economy. Eg two thermostats , on for the Cylinder head..... cooler, and one for the Block, runs hotter. Etc, etc.
Both are on inter net sites from a link in T.K.
I have made very few smart decisions in my life and happily one of them was to buy a six speed manual Golf !

Interestingly Ford have dropped their duel clutch and returned to a torque converter auto in update Focus and new Mondeo.

Yes, from what I understand the Ford Unit was an unmitigated disaster.
Also that a number of different manufacturers produce Twin Clutch Autos
Maybe they are ok in a Porsche where money is no object ???

Hyundai are using them in there 1.6 litre turbo equipped cars . Have heard nothing bad about them.

Ah yes, but whose unit are they using. Last time I looked there were 5 different manufacturers supplying them. Back as far as Ford/Fiat in the early nineties. May be adapted and manufactured in House under licence from Porsche ??????
The 5/7 year warranties offered by the Koreans are because their products don't give trouble.

True 1 year into ownership of my KIA Cerato it has 35000km and nothing to report other than it work's.

I do apologise for being pedantic but I would expect a Duel Clutch Transmission to fail as it is in conflict with its other half. Now a Dual Clutch Transmission might just work ....

Wikipedia has a very detailed segment on Duel Clutch Autos. With many manufacturers basing their designs on Borg Warner supplied parts.
It seems that the best of the lot is an in house designed and produced Auto from Korea.
Released in 2015 and a big improvement on the rest.

35,000Ks in a year Motec , don't you ever go home to bed ?
I guess most of the Ks are open road in top gear with not much exercise for the Automatic gear changes. Time will tell but looking good so far
