A W126 Daily?

I'm thinking of buying a 560SEL as a daily to replace my Fairmont Ghia which is fading... Am I completely mad, or should I go for it? Any suggestions?

Seems the current batch of 6.9s for sale are going for around the same money as a 560, which could suggest the W116 is gaining value compared to later MBs

Year model, colour & how many kms has the 560SEL travelled Oversize?

I had a 560SEL as a daily (if you can call any of my cars daily :rolleyes: ) and I loved it.

The only reason I sold it was to make way for a RR Spur II.

It has everything and is not that heavy on fuel as it is effortless in acceleraton and would almost keep up with a 6.9. (ask the Godfather).

I'd do it if I were you.

I've had my 420SEL for just over 2 years now and have done over 40,000K's trouble free apart from the drivers side window regulator. It's lovely to drive, reasonably on fuel, extremely comfortably and plenty quick. After a Ford you will not believe how refined they are.

Hmmm they're not cheap if you want a good one... It might indicate they're going up in value cause there's later models going way cheaper

The 560 is the ultimate in a W126.
It certainly reflects that in the price.

This is a very old thread, but just came across it.
I've run a W126 as a daily for over 10 years and they make great dailies. Comfortable, reliable, safe.
They have an advantage over cars such as the 107 or 116 as a daily because they have ABS brakes, better AC and are not as rust prone.
There are probably two downsides:
  1. They are thirsty if you have a long commute.
  2. Many parts need to be sourced from overseas so you may be waiting on parts or to get into a mechanic who can work on these cars. All the good old Benz mechanics are pretty in demand and there is often a wait list.
