603 Tatra at shannons

This belongs to Izzy Herzog and was previously sold a couple of years ago, but then he ended up with it back again. Not sure of the complete story, but it was bought by a fellow dealer and they did some sort of deal afterwards. The car is a bit rough, but still a rare car in Australia - or elsewhere for that matter.

Reminds me - I must get the motor back in mine so I can drive it again, but I have started restoring the Tatraplan so that is keeping me occupied at the moment.

There are a few more than that ! There is 1 T87, 7 Tatraplan's, 5 603's and 3 613's that I know of.

When it "sold" last time, it was around $15,000.

What an interesting and unusual car. We have of course discussed certain aspets of the Tatra marque some two years ago - at the time of the April Club get together inthe carpark of the Canada Bay Club, and on that occasion Craig brought along his example - and no doubt about, it quite rightly attracted a lot of attention.

The car featured here has been advertised for some time now - I saw it in Just Cars, at $285K. and I must admit that I just shook my head. I don't know what Craig thinks, but they must be whistling in the wind if they think they can get that sort of money. It sure is unusual and obviously rare, but at that price ? Not my sort of car. The $285K is about what it has cost the owner, from the time he bought it as a restoration object and to have it restored by Sleeping Beauties. There are a couple of things that preclude it reaching the dizzy heights of the current pricing, not the least of which is the wrong motor installed in the car. There is a genuine T87 engine that comes with the car, but its mechanical condition is unknown, so you would have to allow 30K to rebuild it.

The realistic price for the car is around $200,000.
