My w126 had the original hood pad and was falling apart. There were few replacement choices to choose from ranging from 30 euros to 150 euros from the Mercedes dealer. I decided to buy from the dealer. The new pad was clearly for the diesel model because it had the heat shield. It can be removed so it doesnt stand out. The glue i used was Teroson SB2444 from autodoc 20 euros per can. I bought two cans. If i understood correctly it is the exact same glue the mercedes dealer would sell me at a higher price.

I removed most of the old pad by hand and finished with a pressure washer:

The new pad and the turbo heat shield:

I did not realize how fast glue can dry.
There is no extra time to apply it evenly:

After installation:

It has stayed on so far. I think the original one wasn't properly glued on by the factory. Time will tell how this stays on.
I wouldn't attempt this alone without help. There is not much time to get it right and things can get messy with the glue.
