Yes that's a 1970 Capri GT 3000 V6 - it was no match for the track thoroghbred Povo.

Great pics, vids and stuff fellas.

Thanks for capturing the day, hopefully my camera issues will be no more next time round. New equipment has arrived today.

Lukas, you're a funny man. :) There's no way I could handle the stress and pain involved with hydro suspension.

It was a great day out. I have to thank Simon, Sam & Ian for their pit crew efforts, also very much appreciated. And a big thanks to Ian for not taking Ol' silver 'off-road'.

Was shyte seeing povo out of the running early, was looking forward to getting some good footage of the 2 W116's having a battle.
Maybe povo saw Ol' silver with Ian behind the wheel and decided to pack it in. :D heheh.. bad joke, i know.

It's interesting watching the vids and comparing our lines Ian. The one sprint that I adjusted quite a bit in was the last 1 where there was no footage of it..would've been nice to hear what I said when I put the brake pedal to the floor with nothing. :(
For the first 3 sprints I was definitely using 1st too much. There is definitely a few areas where 1st gear is valuable, but there's some parts of the track where I'm definitely wasting time downshifting. I should've stayed in 2nd and just moderated the throttle / brake.

Ol' silver needs a few things done before next event, but nothing too much.
  • New Pads
  • Maybe New Rotors (fronts only probably)
  • Catch Can
  • 1 x New Tyre

Ian, can you do me a favour? Can you setup a camera to capture the moment when the times are released/mailed out for my last run of the day. ;)

Cam.

PS. Michel, have you had any luck with finding a track car to develop???

Thank you, Michel. Crapi that's it. I originally had question marks after Escort but thought I'd have a wild stab.

I actually passed this guy, only coz he spun out :D Plus I was going as hard as a I could, he was just warming up.;)

Yeah we gotta do that again:cool: Coz I got no incar povo footage I can only remember taking a few mental notes. I hadn't had enough track time to work out lines but I do remember coming up to the esses and braking before the 300m mark where as you guys weren't braking until the 200 mark. Throughout the track I was braking too early being cautious. Haven't compared track lines. We need both of your hotlaps side by side. I've been waiting for the results too. Apart from seeing your comparisons, I wanna make sure I stayed 4th last and didn't drop any further.

Wish I got your spin on tape Cam. We all looked the other way after you went over the ridge at the start line.

I didn't even use 1st. Dropping to 1st causes engine braking which slows the car down before the power comes on, and with the low diff, 1st will run out of revs very quickly, so you can't use it for very long anyway. I just stayed in 2nd and changed to third when I felt that the torque peak in 2nd had been reached. Conservation of momentum was how I was trying to keep the car fast thru corners:

I hadn't had enough track time to work out lines but I do remember coming up to the esses and braking before the 300m mark where as you guys weren't braking until the 200 mark.

Since I was only slowing from 160km/h I was braking from 150m, and fully off the brake before the left-hand turn into the esses. In my mazda which would be doing 195km/h at the same place I'd brake at 200m. The 300m marker is only of real use to cars capable of more than 250km/h.

I.

It's interesting watching a side by side comparison. There's really nothing in it. I played Cam's 3rd and Ian's 1st with two youtube windows side by side and if I could pick a difference, maybe you turn a bit tighter Ian. there's really only a couple of laps at best to compare because of traffic but still good to watch.

One more short vid I didn't upload the other day. A bit shaky but has my favourite bit, Ian with a drift onto the straight. Then I ran out of film.
