Hi people, I improved my PB in the white 450SE at Sandown by at least 2 seconds from a fastest lap of 1:47 to 1:45, which now equals Cameron's time set last year in TeamW116 #1 Ol'silver.
Trying to find where the last 1000 rpm had gone (we've been competing with a top rev limit of an emphasemic 5000rpm with the old girl refusing to rev past that and blowing heaps of smoke in the process) we set out on changing an item on each six-lap heat, starting with the ignition coil of the first set. That made no difference. Before the 2nd heat we changed the MPS for the one which came with the car - I'd changed it to try to solve some other issues when I first got the car - and it actually ran slightly worse, its redline now reduced to 4800 rpm. Finally with the good MPS back in we backed off the ignition timing from 10 degrees advanced to TDC (0 degrees) and we found an extra 500rpm available! I was also told the V8 sounded a bit happier running down the front straight and was producing less smoke. Curiously the idle speed is a bit rougher but I'll live with that.
Here are some pictures and videos taken by a 13 year old son of a mate, so you'll have to excuse the lack of sophistication in the pics and camera shake in the videos, but you get the idea.
Upon arrival:
In good company (350Z, 911, RX3, TR-7, Elphin):
Awaiting 1st run:
Giving it a bootful:
Encountering some traffic:
The team most likely to succeed:
All ready to do battle again:
Videos:
And we're off and running... and smoking (from the exhaust pipes, not the tyres):

Lap 1 - no traffic:

Lap 3 - overtakes some nondescript turbo hatchback:

Lap 4 - I gets overtaken by a Datsun 1600 and an RX3, but NOT a Celica:
