Initial purchase has to be in the low hundreds.

As I mentionned many times, the body/interior DO NOT have to be in top condition.
ALL the interior would be removed anyway
The body, well, I own a Body Shop....

On prepping the car?
No idea or defined price....
But I plan on trying to get contra deals through my magazine, my radio programme and the world on wheels website.

Sounds great! So, if you plan on picking up a $300 sh!tter, and gutting it. Do you plan on swapping out the engine for something else, maybe non MB?!

I'm guessing you'll be doing a total re-spray and slapping sponsors on?!
Or will you be keeping with the budget theme of Team W116 and using pressure packs and a paint brush?

No sh!tter as such, but maybe something a little sad in the body and interior...
I am really hoping to pick a clean (mechanically) 450SE (or SEL).
NO plans for engine swaps (that would NOT be economical cause I'd have to pay someone) and it has to be all MB.

From experience, I could probably get him under 1K, no probs. If it's good mechanically, then this might be a good start. Only thing is it's an SEL, but hey.. I can guarantee you an SEL isn't slow.

Forgot to mention, I could probably work a deal to get that interior (black leather) off you if you wanted to go for it.... put it in a canary yellow 400SE Fordedes.

There was an add that sounded almost identicle, except it said needs a little TLC, this was bout 12months ago.

I drove out to braidwood (past braidwood), bout 1.5hrs from canberra.

I'd spoken to the guy on the phone, who said yeah, she's in good nick for a car her age. Low KM's, needs probably some touch up paint on the drivers side door, but a great car.

Was a 500SEL, I wanted the engine.

I got there, the entire drivers side was scraped / and doors bent. Primer all over it.

The front must have hit a ditch, and the bonnet hadbeen pushed back (wouldn't close 100%) onto the windscreen.

The car blew more smoke than cheech and chong.

He wanted $1,000 for it, wouldn't budge. I told him that he'd have to pay for my petrol to come back and pick it up, that's the only time i'd buy it.


I guess what i'm trying to say is, ad's like this can be deceiving. You can turn up to these, and the car is a really sh!tbox, with not much going for it...but salvageable. And usually you can haggle them down to next to nothing... sometimes not though.

But yes, Michel, you sound too pedantic.

FWIW, I reckon that one in Melb that myself and fotografa posted needs a closer look. Was $900, relisted at 99c. It could be that $300 bargain Michel. It's so good that it would appear to be a likely candidate to be fixed and either used or sold on as a d/d, but there's so many out there, I wouldn't feel guilty about doing the panel work and stripping the innards then racing the thing. To me, the repairs needed look less and easier than what I did for povo.

I just showed Jerry the pics of that car and he reckons it's a piece of cake (I knew that).
I would need a bonnet, headlights and grille.
AND transport from Melbourne
