Electronic Ignition

An interesting episode of an older Wheeler Dealers program demonstrated the advantage of switching to Electronic Ignition from Points on a XJ Jaguar. The Spark intensity was improved by a factor of three. Plus a wider plug gap as a bonus.I had a particularly good result on my MGA years ago. with a new Distributor, which had an improved Advance Curve to suit modern Fuels. Back when the Car was new, the Octane rating would have been around 72.

We fitted electronic ignition to the Phantom V to replace the points and the result is excellent - been there for about 8 years now and going well.

I have a pertronix in my Jag and its been good. The 250SE still runs points, but would convert if I had any issues.

I also know a few people who swear by 123 ignition on their DS.
