Trimatics Bryce.. down to a fine Art. 4 Hours to R & R and rebuild properly.
A half hour to remove, 15 minutes to strip with a 3/8 Impact Gun. About 20 minutes in a large washing machine with very hot water and a caustic solution. Everything comes out like new. Then upstairs to the rebuild Room via an electric winch. Front Pump off to the machine Shop to be refaced to cut down the tolerance from 3 t0 4 hou to 1.5 thou. across the face of the gears. That was the secret of getting these Transmission to work properly. ( including G.M 350s and 400s )

60 PSI oil at idle speed. No leakage past the F/pump gears, when Hot. All parts , new clutches and a band if necessary in stock always. Strip the valve Body and clean all ports. Open the Convertor if there was metal in the Oil Pan. Otherwise just flush it out. We could assemble them blind folded. Re-fit and road test, rarely needed any adjustments. Maybe the odd one needed a brake rivet to lengthen the hallow Modulator Rod to slightly firm up the Shifts. Never had one back for warranty after being rebuilt properly, as it was designed to work. We did around half dozen Trimatics a week. Plus an equal number of BW 35s in various Cars. Throw in a Jaguar, a Humber, a Hillman or a Triumph etc and we were always busy.
I realised from a period of living in America that repetition was the secret to making money. GM used to build millions of Black 3 speed Manuals Chevs each year. Ala T Model Fords. Today it is 150 Pick Up Trucks. Chev probably had amortised the development cost in the first year. The rest was clear profit..... Them was them thar Days !!
