That does not look like a B.W. Auto Box Styria, three old fashioned pedals on the floor ?... Smart move to fit new SU Pumps. As they age almost impossible to make them reliable. Ask me how I know ! Looks very nice..... equals hard work. When is inspection Day ?

    Paintless Dent Removal

Perhaps Michel or Styria have a contact ? I tried myself using a Kit that pulls dents out using a glued on plastic piece which is then pulled out by a lever type pumping action.... Made it worse, a little knowledge is dangerous !

    VW Duel Clutch Auto

Just watched a disassembly video of the 7 speed Duel clutch Auto. Brilliant, complex design. But be afraid be very afraid ! It is mind boggling complex, and far from trouble free. Also a similar video on the 1.4 Turbo Engine. Very sophisticated to obtain the Power and fuel economy. Eg two...

    lost expertise

Picking up on something Styria said. I have just finished a very interesting Book which traces the History of our development from Hunter Gatherers through Farming to Fossil Fuel dependent societies. I have one disagreement to a conclusion put forward,,it is that we have lost the ability to...

    used merc v new Vw

Remember the Mercedes Add... a used Mercedes is better than a New anything else( at the same price) Little Wifey has been making noise about replacing our now 6 year old C Class. Vw Passat has had a good reports, A road test for $43000 soon convinced that the add was right. not a patch on the C...

:confused:http://www.knowyourparts.com/technical-articles/more-modules-than-you-can-shake-a-stick-at/ Mr Goggle to the rescue. a broad understanding on what is going on behind the scenes. The last bit about miss diagnosis is very relevant. Also the bit about the short comings of some of the...

    A Luddite

A Luddite ? I hope not. Current Mercedes Electronics are becoming more and more mysterious to me. I wonder if Helmet could be persuaded to shine some light on the subject. A Trade night or a week end afternoon perhaps. Please raise your hands if this appeals.

    weak side walls

I have have had to replace two Tires on our 2010 C Class in the past month. Both from side wall damage. It seems that any bump on the side wall will be terminal. Are these modern wide tires on a weight saving exercise to compensate for the now heavy wide alloy wheels ? Side walls used to be...

    Comp. Insurance

Just received my Renewal for 2015 VW Golf. Up $190 something from last year. Quotes all over the place . best by far NRMA for $547. I arranged the cover at the Chatswood Office which was cheaper than their online Quote. But the renewal for my C Class 2010 was much higher with NRMA. Also, when I...

    Reliability

Well it is very good news for Styria....and very bad news for Bentley. Current survey from U. K. advises buy Far East Cars. No. 1 is Honda and no. 99 is Bentley. Also taken into account is cost of repairs if needed. Mercedes, along with the others from the Father Land , have nothing to be...

    guide tool

it used to be that a guide Tool to locate the wheel when changing a Wheel was in the Tool Kit. Not with our C Class 204 ( 2010 ) With two damaged tires lately it is very difficult to mount the wheel without a 14 mm guide pin. The lip to centre the wheel is very shallow. Guide Pins from Amazon...

    Blue Smoke

Not vintage or Classic just yet, but I'm puzzled about a single ,small cloud of light blue smoke, on cold starts ,from our 2010 1.8 Turbo C Class at 45,000Ks. Does not use oil from one end of the year to the other, about 8,000Ks. per year. Otherwise no other issues. Turbo or V/stem Seals...

    On the way out

In Brisbane last week I was sad to hear from my old Transmission Shop that they are closing the doors after 50 years. Overhauling Automatics over 5 years old costs more than most of the cars are worth. So the work has dried up. Mostly repairs only, and mostly on worn out valve bodies. Caused...

    History

I spent a couple of hours today trawling the Net on the History of Twin Clutch Manual Automatics. Designed before World War 11 and developed by many others over the years untill now. I did not know ,for instance ,that Ricardo in the UK designed and make the Twin Clutch Automatic for the...

    Petrol consumption

:confused:I know we can all check the accuracy of ODOs against the kilometres markers on the Motorways. But can the fuel usage readout be believed ? I know we can brim the Tank and then back to the same Pump, but with accurate electronics measuring fuel ( Petrol ) being injected, it should not...

    Dropping DSG

Looks like the prediction posted in Topklasse has come to fruition with news that Audi is to fit an eight speed Auto Box to the A4. Probably a ZF. Will be repeated across all the VW , Porsche , etc., line up eventually.
