Today is the Day of the Electronic Technician..... My days are long done Side valve Morris Minors and SU Carburettors...
I worry about buying an old carburetted car these days as hardly any mechanics know how to rebuild them or even adjust them.
My regular mechanics have retired a long time ago.

Probably depends on the carby.
Plenty of people who can work on SUs as they are so common - still thousands of British cars equipped with them on the road.

Esoteric carbs I would agree.

Unfortunately not.
A work mate of mine was specialist on these.
Ditto S. U. s Patrick.... also I have not forgotten all the Four Barrelled Carbs from my time in the States
Lincolns .. Mercury's .. Buicks, in the Dealerships I worked in. The Dealerships did not muck around
I did a lot of Tune Ups ... Every Car got new Plugs.... Points & Condenser...and a Carb Overhaul it it would not respond to the idle mixtures. One in Three ....
The weak spots in these heavy cars of the fifties and Sixties were the Drum Brakes ( Drums were always warped ) and the V 8 Distributer Points . Both had a lot to contend with.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the good ole days Sean.
Sometimes, I struggle to remember what was “actually good” about them??
Yes Patrick , Back in Ireland, late thirties, we had a "modern" House... Inside Toilet... a coal Fire to heat Bath Water in the Parlour... rest of the House was an Ice Block .Cars didn't have Heaters nor Thermostats.... a Radiator "Muff" or news papers stuffed between the Grill and the Rad.
All fitted with a Crank Handle ...Workshops were Siberia , even in Ford Dealership in the sixties !
We survived with few complaints.... we had warm clothing and Food and walked a lot .

Great story Sean.
Confusion reins supreme !! One Sites say Jatco another says Asian for the CVT supplier.
Many untrustworthy Sites on the Net ..... I find especially on "YouTube". Buy Gold .. just a site o sell a Book, is but one example. Maybe the Dealer knows or is the Transmission and Parts just a number on his Computer.. ???

Interesting Snippet from an American "Mechanic Show."... 75Percent of Americans neglect Car Maintenance ..... then complain.... Today checking with my otherwise Competent Granddaughter and her Husband.... They have no idea what is done to their Car re servicing. Both High School Teachers. No orphans it seems.... Turn a Key .. push a pedal and the Car moves !!!
What is a Dip Stick ???/

Interestingly, only our Japanese brand of trucks, UD, still runs dipsticks.
Plus visual tanks for coolant & power steering.
No dash levels are available.
Of course the dash will warn you if something is low, but no levels.
The Japanese want the owner/driver to physically view these levels.

Maybe that’s why the Japanese product enjoys the best reliability and durability in the whole group 🤔

Probably sums up many peoples' attitudes to mechanical devices. However, is this figure based on evidence or is it anecdotal?

Resolved.. Resolved !! Found a plate riveted to the underside of the Bonnet. Trans Axle definitely an 8 Speed Jatco....Also read that all the bad press about Jatco CVTs problems was from American Cars only. As this 8 Speed is a new version of their CVTs I guess that any issues have now been engineered out. I also read that the problems all stemmed from faulty Oil Pumps being scored.
Like Engines, good clean Lubrication is the Heart that beats long life..
