Sorry guys, I thought I got it 100% right, not realizing that I was 100% wrong - anyway, you all got the picture and thank you for correcting me. BTW, talk about the Quandt family - anyone heard of Erika...and I have forgotten her surname ? - Not much of a clue, is it ? It may have been Popp.
Anyway, has anyone heard of Richard Seaman, the British Racing Car driver that was invited by Alfred Neubauer to join the Mercedes Benz Racing team in the late '30s ? The story is that Richard came from a very wealthy British family, but his father disapproved of his racing activities whilst mother , on the other hand, fully supported his aspirations. When Richard joined Mercedes, during the course of his short lived career, he met and fell in love with Erika. However, mother disapproved of that union to the extent that she completely disendowed him from any monetary support. It was never known why she completely cut off her son.
Eventually, Richard and Erika married, and as a wedding present, the Quandt family bought the young couple a beautiful house in some part of Bavaria. I have seen a picture of that house, and it was just gorgeous, enveloped in tree studded country. Erika was a very close relation to the Quandt family. Richard Seaman died some months later in a fiery inferno when his Mercedes, whilst in the lead on a rain soaked track, crashed, hit a tree and burst into flames. It is believed that Erika then moved to England for a short period of time, and thence to America, when all trace was lost of her. I do have the proper story somewhere on PDF and will submit it in due course. Regards Styria
