From the Horse's Mouth...... Picked up one of our C Class W204 after having the Steering Wheel Lock mechanism repaired. Mercedes Specialist told me that a lot of the Parts for Mercedes , Audi and BMW are now sourced in China.
The currant W205 C Class has the same steering Lock issues as the W204s and others from the Nineties. An unnecessarily complex electronic design.
As these Vehicles cannot be started without the coded Key Transponder .. why fit a steering Lock.??

Just to make it more difficult for someone towing it.
Ideally you are meant to turn the wheel as far as you can to one side and then apply the steering lock.

Sean, tongue in cheek. I thought that your cars issues could rectify themselves as my Captiva managed to do. It cost $11.00 for the purchase of an incorrect Ignition switch sourced from Hong Kong that....didn't fit ! I worry about some of these Mercedes problems however. Regards Styria
