Professor I have no comment ,but why it didn't sold and produced if was successful ???? The car can't compete with even English cars of the era ,I was in England late 60's I saw the jaguar , Jensen ,Daimler , lotus and sure the boss Rolls Royce ,all with character even I am not a British car fan but all have my respect.

Regards
Tarek

Hi Tarek, the mechanical specs. were probably spot on, and very advanced for its time - remember, this was 1999. As BenzBoy ventures to say, the interior is fine, save for a quite uselessly sized boot (trunk), and the upholstery does indeed look very nice. However, if I compared the dash styling with that of a Holden Statesman we used to own, it is no longer a contest. The packard seems to fall well short of finesse and that professional detail.

However, the stumbling block - I believe they were looking at a retail price of $US.160K. - shut the door, end of story. There was just no way that this car, with its, shall we say, unusual styling, was going to win the hearts of Americans, or any other nation, and get an individual to part with that sort of money. Regards Styria

The problem on price would also be that the V12 being a low volume production item is very expensive Falconer want over $65000 in base spec .

Hi Styria it was looking at the pictures of the engine that lit a light bulb . I remembered reading in the 90's about a V12 engine being built for a car project in Hot Rod magazine. And this is the engine they used in Packard prototype. :D

I am so pleased we have people like you Motec who have a broad range of interest in cars and engines - it adds the flavour and colour we need to this site.
What I can't understand is why the Americans can produce something like this that they don't put it into production. Is the continuing after effect of the Nader rage or is it that the Americans have become lazy thinkers and in doing so lost their creativity?
Regards,
Brian

Hi Brian I think its a bit off both and is the reason American auto industry went into melt down as every time something that would improve product perception was designed by designers or engineers comities took over vetoed idea and went for next truck as until GFC they were a high profit area and ignored car development. When truck sales stalled in 2008 American auto industry had no product and no answer to market with resulting collapse and going hand in cup to Government. Hopefully with old management off bean counters removed we may see a rebirth of American auto industry as it needs to be healthy for rest off the world car company's. I know China is slowly taking that mantle but are not there yet. :D
