I read some where that some 107s were brought in by Mercedes with 110 DOHC engines around the mid seventies. Can anyone confirm this ?

All six-cylinder equipped 107s were fitted with the DOHC M110 engine.
The M110.98x and .99x engines are fuel-injected engines, with Bosch D-Jetronic up to the .983 and K-Jetronic from the .984.

M110.982 / M110.992
The .992 is the low-compression version of the .982.
Power output of .982: 185 hp (136 kW) at 6000rpm.
Power output of .992: 170 hp (125 kW) at 6000rpm.

Applications:
1973-1976 280SL
1973-1976 280SLC

Hope that helps

ooops.

I think I jumped the gun here and misread your question Sean.

You want to know if any six cylinder 107s were officially imported by MB in Australia?
And I don't have an answer

This is second hand evidence:
I was at an auction, where a 280 SLC came under the hammer.

The auctioneer's verbal description of the lot included the remark that no 280 107 SL's or SLC's were officially imported into Australia.

There are some with Australian compliance that were ordered from here and picked up in Germany. Then shipped here by their owners. I have only ever seen SL's though , no SLC's.
