The Reserve Bank runs a useful inflation indicator which will show you the cost in today's terms. Go to: http://www.rba.gov.au/calculator/annualDecimal.html
Using the RBA calculator, we find that:
$72,000 in 1984 is the equivalent today of $194,672.73.
Not quite the claimed $250,000
I do hope it's had more than 3 oil changes in all this time. Still, if you want a car to fairly easily bring up to Concours standard, then this might be the one. It needs Parks' magic hands on the door trim though.
As Helmet says, supply and demand is all that counts here.
Regards,
Brian

I wonder how many times the suspension bushes, oil seals, belts and hoses have been replaced since 1984?

Their condition is more a function of age, rather than distance covered.
