On my 1979 6.9 the windscreen wash and wipers in intermittent position failed. Wipers in position II and III still OK. Is there an obvious cause / fix?

Hi Bronzy 935, it is a problem that I have not come across previously. There is of course a wiring loom that runs to the switch on the column, and the problem could well be in the switch/lever itself. If I was faced with that situation, I'd probably consult my Auto Electrician. Sorry can't do better than that. Regards Styria

It sounds as if the intermittent/washer relay may have failed. It's located under the dash with all the other large relays.

The combination switch could also be the problem as Styria pointed out.

From memory, I think it has six pins and is a fairly large unit, compared to the multi-purpose cube relays. It is more than "just a relay" as it contains a control/timer circuit. They usually fail as a result of dry solder joints or bad capacitors.

If you're not comfortable troubleshooting electrics, I'd also go with Styria's suggestion of finding an auto electrician.

Tim
