This was a weeklong process, the mast was frozen solid with corrosion internally. The tension wheel which contacts the nylon smooth flexible cable was also corroded and seized.
The internals of the antenna motor were removed from the metal housing of the antenna and we were disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled.
One of the products that I would like to mention, was the CRC evaporust product which was a great help for unseizing corroded items such as the nylon cable tension wheel, and the antenna mast itself.
I used a 25 mm piece of underground electrical conduit cut to size, capped it off and put the antenna mast in there for a week and filled it with the CRC corrosion removal product.
After a week of soaking, I was able to free up the corroded and seized mast and after a generous flushing, drying, and lubrication, correct function of the antenna is the end result.
This was quite a rewarding experience as opposed to giving up on the original Hirschmann and just buying a universal antenna, I am glad that I could restore its function.
Apologies I do not have a photo of the end result however, this was the way the internals of the antenna looked upon initial inspection.
Thank you
