And 6.9 has slightly higher top speed but weight means its about a second slower over quarter mile. :)

Hi Geoff, I don't think that's quite correct - well, as far as I know anyway - off the top of my head. I believe the quarter mile times are equal between the two cars.

I also knew a guy in Newcastle, by the name of Peter Bennett, who had an immaculate 600, a superb 6.3 that was voted people's choice at one of the concours events held at Parramatta about twelve years ago, and he also owned several 6.9s over a period of time. He was clocked, with the radar co-operation of the Police Force at 162 miles per hour. Incidentally, it was Rene Rivkin that bought his 600 for $95K., who then spent another $40K. over a couple of years, and it was then sold at a Goodmans Auction at Double for $40K. THat's what you call 'interesting transactions'. At that auction, they also sold a 540K look alike Horch (or Adler), and a 1962 Lagonda Rapide for $25K. Regards Styria

Wikipedia have actually produced a most interesting summary of the Quattroporte - one of my favourites. Also note the referral to a Lagonda Rapide, another of my favourite Classics. Back in about 1979, the Arnold Glass dealership (Nissans) on Parramatta Road had a quattroporte in their showroom, priced at $6K. At that time, I was driving, among others, a 1966 300SE LWB. I sort of talked, and enquired, regarding purchase of the Maserati, trade in value of the 300, but I lost interest in the Maser when they valued my car at $500.00. Good bye Charlie, nice meeting you. (Yet another of my "rich in vein" stories :D). Regards Styria

BTW, after seven years, and 100K. miles in my ownership, I sold the 300 for $4800.00. I had paid 2.5 for it, so did quite well.

Complete performance analysis and accelerations review for Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 in 1978, the model with 4-door sedan body and V-8 6834 cm3 / 416.5 cui, 210 kW / 286 PS / 282 hp (DIN) engine for Europe . According to ProfessCars™ estimation this Mercedes-Benz is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 6.9 sec, from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 sec and 1/4 mile in 15.4 sec.. Below we present more detailed data of the official factory claim and the ProfessCars™ estimation, including acceleration times 0-100 mph, 0-160 km/h, 0-200 km/h, with comprehensive graphic illustration, top speed, accelerations on gears and http://www.automobile-catalog.com/performance/1978/1470470/mercedes-benz_450_sel_6_9.html
Apparently the AMG 6.3 had 320hp and did quarter mile in 14.5 seconds http://www.automobile-catalog.com/performance/1971/1567745/amg_300_sel_6_3.html . which is also what magazine did with standard 6.3 . . 6.9 had a factory rated top speed 10mph faster than 6.3 but is was slower by around 1 second over the quarter mile Styria . One is a Bankers Hot Rod the other an Autobahn Bruiser. :D

Thanks Mark . As I have said I want my 6.9 to be low 14 seconds maybe high 13 seconds. Then it will be a nice street cruiser. :)
