Not so silly.
I took out life insurance on my wife when she started to produce kids.
I asked myself the question:
"What if, for any reason, she wasn't able to maintain her family?"
I insured her like a car; annual premiums, no payout when I no longer needed to insure her. When the kids were old enough to look after themselves, I no longer required insurance for my wife.
