Fiat Turbina
In 1954 Fiat was the second car manufacturer, after Rover, to introduce a car propelled by a gas turbine. The project took a long period of planning, studies began in 1948 and ended with a track test in 1954 on the rooftop track of the Lingotto factory. The engine had two compressor stages, one turbine stage, power turbine was single stage with a geared reduction. The declared power was 300 hp at 22,000 rpm, and the estimated top speed was approximately 160 mph. The Turbina held the record for lowest drag coefficient on an automobile (0.14) for 30 years.
The concept was shelved due to high fuel usage and problems with overheating.

And singed paintwork in any car that may be brave enough to follow!

Somehow, it looks, strangely enough to be an experimental American styling bureau exercise, to my eye.

I wonder if it had the same engine as the Rover turbine saloon car of the same period?

Very similar engine and drive line rover was just before. I believe exhaust heat issues weren't solved till the Chrysler turbine car Jay Leno owns one.

Well, I really think that it is a sensational looking car. In those days, Fiat really manufactured some elegant and beautiful Motor Cars. Mind you the Chrysler Turbine Machine also really looks brilliant - as did so many of the Chrysler products of that era, both fifties and seventies as well.

Rover in collaboration with BRM, produced the racer that competed in the Le Mans 24 hours, and completed that journey without major problems. Regards Styria

N.B. Herewith the Rover/BRM. Nicely styled, and purposeful looking racer.
