Hi guys,
I believe I’ve finally restored what I think is the correct hose routing for the windscreen and headlight washer systems, but I’d like to confirm a few things.
I currently have one elbow fitting on top of the washer bottle feeding the windscreen washer pump, and the other elbow fitting feeding the headlight washer pump.
The windscreen washer pump is straightforward, with its outlet hose running directly to the windscreen washer jets.
The headlight washer pump is where I’m seeking clarification. The outlet from this pump runs back up to the top of the washer bottle and connects to a T-piece. The other side of this T-piece then feeds the hose that runs back down to the headlight washer jets.
On the hose that runs from the T-piece down to the headlight washer jets, is there supposed to be a single check (non-return) valve located roughly at the same height as the rear of the headlight?
Also, are there any other check valves anywhere else in the system?
The reason I’m asking is because I had to completely re-route the system from scratch after discovering the previous owner had removed all of the washer hoses. I’ve spent quite a bit of time studying photos, videos from other 6.9 owners (particularly right-hand-drive cars), and I’ve also used a 2008 forum post from another member as a reference.
One area I’m still unsure about is the hoses inside the washer bottle itself. Do any of the submerged hoses require a one-way (non-return) valve? In particular, I’m referring to the hose connected to the T-piece that routes fluid from the headlight washer pump back through the washer bottle before it travels down to the headlight washer jets.
One final observation: if I remove the check valve from the line leading to the headlight washer jets, the jets will spray. However, as soon as I install the check valve, the headlight washer jets no longer operate. This makes me wonder whether the original check valve has simply failed with age, or whether I’m missing another component elsewhere in the system.
Any advice, photos, or confirmation of the correct hose routing and check valve locations would be greatly appreciated.
