    6.3 Cylinder head work

A rapidly increasing oil leak from the back of the left hand side head gasket along with worn valve guide seals on Six 3 meant it was time to pull the heads and put things right. I thought I would post the progress and steps up here for those who are interested (and because Styria nagged...

    6.3 Transmission removal

The transmission in my 6.3 has had a slight leak ever since I bought it, when driven daily it used to reduce to a drip every other day so it was never really a problem however reduced use would result in a larger loss. Of course it gradually got worse until the car was simply undriveable, 2...

New interior wood for Six 3.

Hi Styria, You hit the nail on the head with your last question, tomorrow is open home at Baulkham Hills so Karen and I have been cleaning at the sort of rate that Six 3 slurps fuel:p My garage is all packed up and stored at Seven Hills, we have two spare offices at work full of boxes of stuff...

    Driving other cars

Over the last 3 weeks Six 3 has rarely left the garage because I have had reason to drive a mix of cars back to back. Time to bore you all with my observations, comparisons and opinion First up my Hilux 4WD, a 2004 model with only 48K on the odo. It is the basic dual cab, no carpet, hand crank...

    W202 C240 stuff

I have Dads C240 in my garage for a few repairs, replace the drag link which comes with tie rods as a complete unit, $355 for the part and a few hours on my back, easy. Now the fun bit, the car drives wonderfully when you drive it gently. Floor the pedal and it just plays stupid, it will not...

New interior wood for Six 3.

The reason I bought the W108 280SEL mentioned in another thread was for the interior wood. Thankfully it proved to be sound and in great condition, it will need refinishing of course but there is no delaminating or chips in the veneer. I have started 0000 steel wooling the dash bow in the...

    W108 280SEL strip out

A few weeks ago I bought a rusty 280SEL on ebay for $610 to part out simply for the LWB interior wood, dashboard and crash pad and of course the LWB specific parts such as rear window glass and lock mechs, door and roof brightwork, tailshaft and steel brake lines to the rear. The car was in...

    6.3 Transmission howl

It gets better, I degreased and pressure washed the engine bay on Saturday, went out on Sunday morning and the noise is gone:D The fan now has the same minimal resistance when spun by hand as the spare on the 3.5. I didn't even have to pick up a spanner:cool:

    Valve Grind & De-coke on 6.9

Hi Bill, The Co2 meter I have was around the $270 mark on the net and has paid for itself 10 fold in fuel savings and time. It is a cheapy machine, no brand name only Digital Exhaust Gas Analyzer on the cover. It can be a bit of a hassle to use as you need to calibrate at 2% for 10 mins before...

    6.3 Transmission howl

The noise is similar to cavitating fluid, I'll drain all the fluid from the tranny and fluid coupling and refill it to spec and see it that helps.
