    6.9 exhaust

    Outlets on the headers should be AT LEAST 59mm (2.32") for a 6.9 and 58mm (2.28") for a 560. That's each side....

    6.9 exhaust

Finally I have the ability to add real figures to this thread! By my calculations the following should be adopted for optimal performance. Oh and these sizes are MINIMUM ID (NOT OD as pipes are normally specified). Include lots of bends (and not straight-through mufflers) in your design and...

    Mercedes V8 Inlet Manifolds

Finally people are starting to experiment to the benefit of all chasing more MB HP! Not sure if there’s enough headroom in this assembly, but I’ll see if the theory can be tested & hopefully we’ll find out for sure!

    Mercedes V8 Inlet Manifolds

I just measured the usable area of the snorkel... a piddly 67x56mm at its narrowest point!! The widest is 80mm. It was so wrong at the very start of the intake! Not accounting for any bends or excessive length, it should be a minimum 79mm round. Not sure how I stuffed that up but probably too...

So they measure as follows: 6.9 Intake 45mm Exhaust 41.5mm 117 Intake 42.5mm Exhaust 43 x 38mm (not round) Not as much of a difference as I expected!

Rusty Gold 6.9 sold for $8K

Yes I think it was a good price for the seller but it did have high compression engine. Looks like an early car with no timber on the console although the speedo looks like km only so maybe parts have been swapped? I had set aside a day to have a closer look but it sold before I had a chance...

    Mercedes V8 Inlet Manifolds

Interesting that it seems 420 & 560 inlet gaskets are the same suggesting the ports are the same size! New M100 & M117 gaskets are on their way to compare. Parts are now arriving and the work continues....

Carobu Engineering - 560 Dyno Testing

That’s not using radical cams either! Might even use LESS fuel depending on how they’re driven! Reliability is built into the stock engines & won’t be affected. This one apparently made 600hp and that was years ago & prior to the tech now available:

    Shaftless Throttles

When you’re searching for more power, every little bit helps! Particularly important since the majority of flow is at the centre of a pipe. I’ve already spoken to my guy about doing conversions...

    Valve Sizes

I couldn’t find these specs anywhere on any forum! But thanks to a friend on FB here’s the factory specs of valve sizes on engines M110, M116, M117 & M100 6.9. If I find the M100 6.3 specs (or if anyone else has a service manual for one), please post them here for a handy reference.

    Crankshaft Bolts

FYI most of the Benz crankshaft bolts are 27mm. The M100 is 50mm & apparently torqued to 400Nm! I was looking for the sizes yesterday & found nothing on the web so had to ask a mate in the know...
