Some of the cars coming to Lloyds: Lot 430 - 190b: Looks like it has been retrimmed and isn't in too bad shape. Lot 432 - 300SE Coupe: American import with the ugly american front indicators. LHD. Badly retrimmed inside with the wrong pattern. A bit tatty but not in terrible shape...

Lot 201: 93 SL600. Not sure how you own an SL600 with all the NLA parts. My mechanic tried multiple used Mas air sensors from overseas just to get one running as all this stuff is now NLA and there is no aftermarket. Even the brakes are unique to this model and W140 600 and now NLA...

The trouble with these cars was not the core engine and body, it was all the parts that were unique to the model that are prohibitively expensive or NLA. I remember talking to a now ex member of the MBCNSW who owns one at a german car day. He had just spent $850 on a part that would cost $50...

That was what I had always understand. Forged wheels are stronger and lighter, but more expensive to make. Traditionally Mercedes always used forged alloys, like the ubiquitous Mexican hat alloys found on the 70s cars. the aftermarket wheels were generally cast.

Note I should have said these are probably replicas. The most common seem to be the aussie made wheels that were all 6.5". My 450SLC had those fitted on my purchase. There were also the Italian ones (my 280 had them) and then other ones I've seen around the place, some german made too...

That is the standard wheel then for your car. Does it have stick on wheel weights on the inside?

I had a quick look in the 1981 technical data book. The W126 280SE also had 6" wheels, like a W116 280SE, so I would have thought they should fit. There is a note next to the W116 and W126 V8s saying the 6" rims should not be used, but it doesn't say more than that. it also lists the 6.5"...

Two other possibilities: 1) The brake dust shield is bent and touching the rim. 2) your lugs are too long and they are touching the handbrake mechanism inside the hub.
