I would say not so much a death trap but an advertisment for seat belts. Its not surprising the unbelted passengers didn't survive a crash of this magnitude from the back, while the belted bodyguard up front did.

W140,was in the 90's the strongest and safest car in the world no doubt. But only bodyguard had seat belt on he survived. As for S280 lovely car had one for about a year before moving over east.
