The 917 / 30 race car was the most powerful and fastest of the breed, with 1,000 horsepower.

The Veyron Super Sport is the fastest of THAT breed, was designed to be registered for the road, and is faster, AND more powerful, with 1,200 horsepower.
So far, over 350 of them in all forms have been produced. VW are now working on an entirely new model as a replacement, with 1,600 hp.

Of course, there are decades between them.....
