    What's it worth?

Given that the prices acheived for 6.9's went into free fall when the GFC hit (and haven't seemed to have recovered yet), while the prices for parts cars seem to be going through the roof (in comparison), it got me thinking to what my 450SE is actually worth in today's market. I jumped onto...

Mercedes Enthusiast Magazine - April 2011

I just received my copy of the above magazine in my letterbox & was pleased to see a five page article (pages 60-65) on the 450SEL in the "Youngtimer" section. I will try to figure out the best way to scan and post the article on here for those who don't subscribe.

    W116 with column shift

Thankfully the radio & airconditioning system is now standard! I'm also grateful that the design of the column itself is now far more svelte

    Cls350

I'm a little bit chuffed at the moment, gents. The paperwork was signed yesterday afternoon to purchase an E500 Elegance. Expected delivery early next week. Not having the space for three cars, let alone four, the CLS350 is up for sale. If there is a Melbourne (or simply, Australian) Topklasser...

    450SE going to Taswegia

It seems that all the marketing on the television of late for the Spirit of Tasmania got under my skin to the point of purchasing a return ticket for myself and a car. I figured it could be fun to take the 450SE as it has a more useable (& I'd argue larger) boot than the CLS. Besides, there's...

Help required - engine cutting out

I've got some sort of issue which appeared Friday night on the 450SE. For some reason the motor cuts out for a split second while cruising along, giving a surge sensation when cutting back in. At idle (in Drive - say at a set of traffic lights) the miss hits at the wrong time & the engine dies...

    It's back!!! (at last)

After three full, long weeks in the panel shop, the 450SE was returned to its natural habitat this afternoon. First stop - petrol. $115.00. I'd forgotten just how long you need to stand at the bowser for... (a comfortable armchair & a warm lunch would have been nice) Parts had been flown in...

    Luck getting worse

The 450SE is in the panel shop being repaired after somebody hit it in the wee hours of the morning a few weeks back. After speaking to the panelbeater this morning, I am not holding my breath to have the car back before Friday 10/7, at the very earliest. Considering it went in 22/6, I hope they...

    Winton Raceway Funday - 4 July 2009

Is anybody considering going to the next Funday Saturday 4 July? I'll be heading up with a mate, but not sure if I'll be taking the 450SE. We're considering taking the CLS350 this time to give his WRX a run for the money again! :D...

    450SE picks up his 450SE

For the past five weeks, I've been patiently waiting to take delivery of a 1976 450SE. No delay caused by the seller – I had to stall pickup due to an impending property settlement. That was all taken care of last week, so the path was clear. :p In the meantime, the seller kindly kept very good...

    Hard top squeaks & rattles

I'm in need of some suggestions from fellow posters... The hardtop rarely comes off my 380SL, preferring it remain a coupe. That is, unless I have an extra set of willing hands & some protected space in the backyard to dump said hardtop. During a moment of weakness a few weeks ago - to pacify...
