    Car of the week

300TE wagon going very cheap in Melbourne - about a day to go. An auction over the xmas holidays is probably not the best idea. No service history and some scuffs and marks, but these cars are workhorses, so you expect that. WDB1240902F124377...

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think buyers are going to spend that sort of coin on a car with no paint on large sections of the body.

    My 1965 250SE Cabriolet

Last week I took the car on the MBCNSW night drive. Drive went really well, but when turning o to the comenarra parkway, all of a sudden I heard a horrible noise from the front of the car like somebody was rattling nails in a tin can. There was also a very strange steering feel, Like power...

Looks like you're really getting into things, well done. I found this quite useful when trying to get my 280SE to run properly

This 280SE 3.5 is a good illustration of how soft the classic car market is right now. THis would have gone over $50k during covid:

Yeah unfortunately seems a neglected engine and probably has a lot more than 64,000mi on it. these Iron block v8s are pretty indestructible, so it takes a lot of abuse to kill one. I've seen a few 450s (same thing, just taller block) for sale with over 1,000,000 on the clock.

Some of those cam lobes look pretty bad. Sometimes cams in these engines can be oil starved as the oiling tube fittings (plastic) come lose over time letting the lobes past where it comes off starve for oil.

When I bought my old 300SE, it has the resistor plugs in there. It ran decently. But when I serviced the car and swapped for NGK non resistor plugs, it ran smoother and better, and had more power. So I think it will run regardless.

If you're looking for one used one, give MB Classic in Greenacre a call. Its the sort of thing they would have and I doubt it would be very expensive.

Understand, the main point I was trying to make is while the ford engine is cheap, adapting it is not. A few have tried and had all sorts of issues with the steering system fouling, oil pans not clearing the cross member, the diff ratios being all wrong etc. So its not just a drop in if you...

    MBCV Concours

I drove down for this excellent event this year in a convoy of classic Mercedes. I'm not going to take time off work to drive the motorway, so went the scenic route: https://www.classicjalopy.com/2023/11/planning-a-2023-classic-mercedes-road-trip-the-concours-run/...

if you're going to do the engine, put in a Mercedes engine like this. It will bolt right up and the fuel injection is the same. All the K-jet engines will - 450, 380, 500. The KE engines 420, 560 are more work. Putting the ford in will just be headache after headache and once done...

    Car of the week

This 450SE project car will probably go quite cheap. Needs quite a bit of work, but its a 450. Seats have been changed from a 280, and it has various dings and minor rust blemishes. 11603222031361...
