    Red Bull (5541)

Unfortunately I’ll be selling Red Bull after these repairs. I’m keeping the Pentas, so I’m wondering if I should sell her with Bundts, or other AMG wheels I have in stock?

    Progress....

Yes I agree that was an option. However I need funds to buy a house so keeping all the good ones negates that goal. My preferred option was to keep the Buick, ‘Moby’ (which was less valuable & more suited to modification), plus Dora & Midnight for development. However storage limitations have...

    Progress....

Believe me this wasn’t an easy (life changing) decision by any stretch!! FYI a rough cost estimate on the Buick restoration & registration was close to $100k AUD. So unless I become a millionaire that’s never going to happen! Don’t worry I’ll still be here...

    Fangio and the 6.9

As published in the July edition of MBCV's ATB. You may notice the free plug ;): Part 2 - The Plot Thickens It is strange how something seemingly insignificant can suddenly and completely change your plans. It is truly perplexing how these things can somehow steer you back onto the correct...

    Progress....

Well some hard decisions had to be made in the last week or so.... I've decided I'm not getting any younger and if I want to enjoy any cars at all I need to take some drastic measures NOW. I spent a good few hours the other day just pressure washing the green 420SEL and the next day the 'ol...

    Dora 2

I recently found some original pix of Dora when first delivered. She was a royal mess and I'm glad I rescued her from a horrible demise!

    Fangio and the 6.9

Here's a couple of pix from when I nearly sold the car! I'd been looking for these for ages and found them on an old USB. I recently checked some more history of my time with her and discovered I found it through an ad in the Age and not the Trading Post...

    1980 6.9 with ABS

A guy in SA claims there’s a few ABS 6.9s there but did not clarify if they were Aussie or grey imports. When I asked for more info with rego or vins he said I was calling him stupid & deleted his comments on FB. Probably blocked me too. Some people need to grow up! Can we all agree there’s no...

    Fangio and the 6.9

I’ve just looks at the dates & realised I’ve had Skye for 20 years!!! It took 10 years to discover some historical significance, then a further 5 to discover none other than Fangio was linked to the car. Time flys! 😬🥴

Even the tyres on the Benz seem to be relaxed compared to the other cars during cornering!

    Fangio and the 6.9

    Fangio and the 6.9

Skye’s first public owner was Saverio Valmorbida who was CEO of Corval Group PL as recorded in the service books. Google searches reveal they were one of the largest importers of food products to support the ‘new’ Melbourne Italian communities in the 50s. They were once importers of Lavazza...

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

There’s at least 5 pipes that run from the front to back of the car under the RHS. Of the 5 pipes 2 are far smaller and they feed the rear lower ball joints for stiffening & the adjustable link for auto lowering/raising.

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

Here’s a pic of the pesky rear junction block which can be seen above the rear subframe. This feeds the rear lower ball joints. You have to be Houdini to get it out in one piece! 🥴☺️

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

Now to pack it all up properly. Hopefully I’ll get to use it all in the future to upgrade a 6.9 system to the later S2. Note to anyone intending to pull a system like this apart in the future; hot pressure wash everything BEFORE disassembly!! Not only will your overalls thank you, you’ll use...

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

Apparently the car originated in South Africa. Strange since it had a Webasto preheater fitted but only parts of it remained... I would’ve saved that too but it was incomplete & a fire risk even when operative.

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

I had to buy a special Phillips bit driver to save 3 of the junction blocks. The block above the rear suspension carrier would’ve been impossible to remove without it; there’s almost zero clearance. Say hello to my little friend!

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

It is obvious to me the system was installed prior to the drivetrain which makes some parts impossible to remove without a full strip down or permanent ‘modification’ of some pipes...
