New 84 500SEL owner - some timing chain advice please!

It's a good idea to do the chain. Here is a link to an older thread on this job, some of the part numbers may be slightly different for a 500vs a 450 but they are both M117's and you'll need to change all the same parts even if there are minor differences...

    Car of the week

This 380SE looks nice for the money, great colour combination and looks like it has at least some service history: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/randwick/cars-vans-utes/1985-mercedes-380se-w126-v8-rego-warranty-4999-special/1253748374

    W126 Exhaust Performance Upgrades

I wonder if it is a series 1 vs Series 2 thing? Here is my car next to a Series 1 SEC. A bit hard to see because of the angle of the photo, but it does not look like the cut out is there. I suspect the AMG thing is bragging rights at cars and coffee!

    W126 Exhaust Performance Upgrades

I am not planning it any time soon, but for my ECE 560, like these exhaust tips. I have a horrible aftermarket one now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Amg-sebring-Style-W126-C126-w124-W210-W201-W202-R129-W140-exhaust-tips/233615467732?hash=item36649124d4:g:fD8AAOSwYE9e4N6A

    Car of the week

This 280SE looks quite nice other than the faded paint. As you know I am partial to the W126 in signal red. https://www.graysonline.com/lot/0001-7766680/motor-vehiclesmotor-cycles/1982-mercedes-benz-280se-automatic-sedan?spr=true One day left at $1200 FIN...

    The W114/W115 models

Another interesting video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdFRL6dEMo0 HdFRL6dEMo0 Pierre laments the lack of love for the 114/115. And I think he is right that it is probably the least valued of the classic mercedes models. I do think the coupes are in a different class, as is the...

    6.9 6 speed manual kit

Could be an interesting conversion for something like a 500SLC or other 107. Expensive though. Would also be interesting for W113 but might hurt values due to non originality. Having said that, a good 5 speed conversion does not hurt (and often helps) values of classic jags, especially...

    Rebuilding W116 6.9 Struts

we had another thread about the struts used on the simple self-leveling system used on Many Mercedes benz models. There was a bit of confusion on the more complex struts as used on the 6.9 and also the systems used on the series 1 W126 and the series 2 W126. We already have a thread on the...

    W126 self leveling struts

This thread was to focus on the self-leveling rear suspension as found on countless models including 116, 126, 123, 124 and more. No front struts on these systems. Not the far more sophisticated system as found in the 6.9 and occasionally LWB 126. I have moved the content to a new thread.

    C107's 560SEL

Latest on the 560SEL: I took the seat out again and had a look at the adjuster. Using a power probe, there was constant 12v to one of the pins of the motor, and nothing at the other. When the switch is pressed, the voltage goes away. This doesn't seem right. The motor works by sending...

    W126 self leveling struts

There is a mob in the USA rebuilding the SLS struts and they want about $750 plus core for a rebuilt one. That seems excessive. I could understand that for the more complex HPF ones though. This guy who gets good reviews on 600s also does the 6.9 ones so maybe could do the W126 as well...
