    Car of the week

At this stage you have to ask yourself if a Shadow or a Spirit might be better buying as the parts are available from dedicated suppliers. I have just helped with the re-commissioning of a 1973 Shadow and brake hoses, calipers and water pump were available off the shelf. Regards, Brian

    W140 600SEL

Solution; You get a chauffer. No need then to either open or close. It also solves the issue of wrestling with the bonnet to check service items.

    W140 600SEL

Our E350 Coupe has soft close doors - electric motors now though. Siemens made the wiring harnesses for the 600 SEL. Even Lucas did better.

    W140 600SEL

Maybe you could have been lucky. I know of one 600SEL that has never had any issues at all - it was of course serviced regularly. I am told the motors are bomb-proof and 100% reliable provided they have regular oil changes. That is probably true for all mechanical devices. Regards, Brian

    W124 Gullideckel wheels

Some years ago Lancia moved from forged to cast because the softer cast bend and saved the suspension components. I remember that now that you raise the issue of bent wheels. The ones on the Spirit are forged. Regards, Brian

    W124 Gullideckel wheels

Was it the pursuit of a lighter sprung weight that was the cause of the change or the desire to cut costs? Is there a weight difference? Is there s difference in strength? Regards, Brian

    Difference Between W116 and W126

From a quick Google search: What is KBA on wheels? The KBA certification (Germany's federal motor transport authority) includes all the safety requirements established by the German Traffic Laws (StVZO). The KBA certificate is issued only by Certification Bodies designated by the same KBA and...

    C107's 300TE

Indeed - but I jest. In all seriousness, Benz Estates are probably the best balanced design that MB has ever produced. There is an elegance to the lines that is superior to many of the sedans. Regards, Brian

    C107's 300TE

Hmm - initially I looked at the blue Estate and thought that the amount of stripping to replace tail gate struts was perhaps a trifle excessive.... Regards,] Brian

For sale - rationalizing the fleet.

The 306 GTi6 has gone to a new owner who wanted to complete his collection of Peugeot GTis. He will now have the complete set. I guess I will need to change my tag line. It might need to become "Real men drive a crash box manual" but we need to wait and see. I am in no great hurry... Regards, Brian
