I made the time to christen my new garage this weekend and redo the brakes on Six 3.
New pads from the Classic Centre and genuine MB brake fluid from fleabay, $9 per litre.
The front pads were well worn

The rears not so bad, sorry no new pad to compare but about 50% worn

The new garage, soon to be redundant as I cannot fit a hoist in

I was lucky, the calipers were good before I changed pads, it was a breeze, the pistons moved back into the calipers with ease and I used a compressed air brake bleeding tool after replacing the pads, a one man job!

I sucked all the old fluid out with the bleeding tool and bled the lines untill new fluid was running in the lines.
Now I have strong progressive brakes with great pedal feel:D

Hi abl567, if I recall correctly, the rear disc rotors and calipers were not originally fitted by me when I restored your car some ten years ago - I real;ly can't recall. As you would know, ventilated rear discs were only fitted to the 1969 6.3s, thus they're rare. Nice one.

BTW, I wish you had told me that you needed pads - those units from the States will keep your rims nice and dirty with brake dust. I have 'dust free' units on hand - maybe next time. I can get you dust free units for the rears if you ever want them' Whilst they've gone up in price, they're still available at about $55.00 each plus. Regards Styria

It'll be good to see you settle in. Am really looking forwards to our "concours".

Hi Styria,
an old post I know, but , can you comment on the effectiveness of dust free or white dust pads for current cars.

My understanding is that because of European Law, pads and discs must now be able to stop a car within a prescribed distance if the Booster fails. Hence the Factory fitment of soft discs and matched pads . The dust issue is a by product of the regulation . I have heard that the white dust pads stop ok . But I also heard that they can produce brake squeal.
From two well qualified Mercedes Specialists ? ? ?

Sean, I prepared quite a lengthy post, but when I clicked to post it on the forum, the PC could not find the forum page. So, as soon as I get a chance, I will reply to you properly. Regards Styria
