Unecessary on a 6.9 since the space for the rear muffler is far bigger than a 560SEL (plus the 6.9 centre muffler is different), here’s some aftermarket options... VW Beetle Jaguar F Type (note the muffler bi pass)

Anyway I’ve started looking for a replacement for the original kidney mufflers and thought it might be possible to then delete the rear muffler and make it easier to fit the tips...

Well I’ve already upgraded Dora’s exhaust (560SEL) since it needed to be replaced anyway. It’s a 2 x 2 1/4” system using 2 x hot dogs and a stainless HOLDEN VE SS rear muffler and no CATs (Euro engine). The fitter had issues at the rear since I wanted to use later model stainless tips that were...

Interesting that the Centre kidney mufflers are similar to the rear mufflers on various newer cars. Ie transverse mount with two in two out at the centre. Maybe there’s a better replacement out there that will last longer??? More research needed...
