Apparently the car originated in South Africa. Strange since it had a Webasto preheater fitted but only parts of it remained... I would’ve saved that too but it was incomplete & a fire risk even when operative.

I had to buy a special Phillips bit driver to save 3 of the junction blocks. The block above the rear suspension carrier would’ve been impossible to remove without it; there’s almost zero clearance. Say hello to my little friend!

It is obvious to me the system was installed prior to the drivetrain which makes some parts impossible to remove without a full strip down or permanent ‘modification’ of some pipes...

I sold the car a couple of days ago to someone in NSW looking for an engine donor. So that meant I had to get moving & remove all the HPF components including wiring. No small task as I discovered!!

And the location of the ECU which again seems pretty basic so that makes it easier to diagnose and repair

I also believe several models of the Lexus 4x4 also feature hydro & some of the systems were developed in WA

I’m not 100% sure, but possibly the W129 500SL could be optioned with a version of the system with active features.

The 380s and 500s from 1980 could also be optioned with HPF. Not sure if you could option up a later 420, but definitely the late W126 500SEL and 560SEL.

Yep I guess during that era it was hard to prove authenticity regardless. Buyer beware but I think it’s still good value for what’s on offer
