    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

Now to pack it all up properly. Hopefully I’ll get to use it all in the future to upgrade a 6.9 system to the later S2. Note to anyone intending to pull a system like this apart in the future; hot pressure wash everything BEFORE disassembly!! Not only will your overalls thank you, you’ll use...

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

Apparently the car originated in South Africa. Strange since it had a Webasto preheater fitted but only parts of it remained... I would’ve saved that too but it was incomplete & a fire risk even when operative.

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

I had to buy a special Phillips bit driver to save 3 of the junction blocks. The block above the rear suspension carrier would’ve been impossible to remove without it; there’s almost zero clearance. Say hello to my little friend!

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

It is obvious to me the system was installed prior to the drivetrain which makes some parts impossible to remove without a full strip down or permanent ‘modification’ of some pipes...

    Hydropneumatic Suspension (HPF) Series 2

I sold the car a couple of days ago to someone in NSW looking for an engine donor. So that meant I had to get moving & remove all the HPF components including wiring. No small task as I discovered!!

I also believe several models of the Lexus 4x4 also feature hydro & some of the systems were developed in WA

I’m not 100% sure, but possibly the W129 500SL could be optioned with a version of the system with active features.

The 380s and 500s from 1980 could also be optioned with HPF. Not sure if you could option up a later 420, but definitely the late W126 500SEL and 560SEL.

    Fangio and the 6.9

I replaced the centre section of the exhaust due to an annoying hole and had a twin system fabricated, similar to what was originally fitted. I should’ve researched the factory pipe diameter before I contracted the work and clarified what I wanted before the work commenced. As a result, the...

    Fangio and the 6.9

Part of the article published in the latest MBCV edition of ATB: Well this story had many twists and turns along the way, so I hope I don’t miss anything during the next few articles. Of course the best place to start is at the very beginning… Part 1 – The Journey Begins. So I’ve...

    Car of the week

The Peter Lennox 6.9 is advertised for around 1/2 the price of Bill's old car, however I don't believe the PL car is anywhere near as good, despite the way it's been portrayed. It'd be interesting to know if there are any Aussie cars that remain with ultra low kms, but TBH I'd prefer a grey...

    Car of the week

Seems inconsistent since some sold for a decent price yet others were flat. Is this the sole way they do business now or is there in person auctions available?? On inflation I must admit I have no idea. I can’t see how someone buying a new TV might affect the price of energy or groceries...
