Pics to get things started before I start dumping copious amounts of text & pictures into this thread. I’ve been interested in coolant & cooling systems for years so it’s good to finally get my thoughts into words that can be shared to benefit everyone here.

Note if the secondary housing fails or corrodes through, it will fill the sump with coolant which is hardly a great design!

Note when rebuilding the pump that the distance bw the housing & the impeller (a) cannot exceed 1.2mm

I have a NOS seal but without a press with suitable equipment & specific knowledge about how it comes apart, I don’t wish to risk damaging the fragile impeller or housing. It should be finished mid week, so we’ll see the quality of their work.

FYI you should always remove the distributor with the engine on TDC & sufficiently marked to allow easy installation

Well I can now add to this thread since I’m 1/2 way thorough repairing the pump on Red Bull which is in the hands of the new owner. I also have a source for pump repairs for a reasonable cost in Melbourne thank to good mate Colin Mead. Pix n details to follow…

I believe Bill bought Motecs old 6.9 so Bill had 2 cars. One was being sold as a genuine AMG & the other was sent to a wrecker where it was likely crushed. No idea why the wrecker didn’t at least part it out

Well after at least 6 months of self inflicted pain & suffering, I finally moved out on 18/12/2023! Very close now to being debt free & no longer paying a lease for storing all my stuff, for the first time in at least a decade!!!
