I finally got a copy of this book which reveals some leads to more info on the event and the media release:

I just managed to get a far better screenshot from one of the AMG 450SLC YouTube vids.... Seems AMG were convinced twin throttles and plenums were the way to go.

Under the bonnet of the original AMG 450SLC racing car revealing parts of the intake setup. Spoke to my fabricator yesterday who will be CNC machining the base plates once I source the materials. I will be doing more of the rest myself since he’s flat out until June 2021!!!

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this picture before, but I didn’t understand the significance until just now! Seen post Red Pig racing car days, outside AMG HQ.... It doesn’t seem right that Hans Heyer’s Wiki page says nothing about him racing the Red Pig, or him effectively being AMG’s prototype...

A couple of other pix found on the net, after searching vigorously! No video yet unfortunately. Seems like most of the vids on YouTube of that era are poor quality anyway and sadly only follow the lead cars in circulation on the track.

Interserie Series at the Imola Circuit 01/05/1972:

With the loss of local manufacturing, 2 recent withdrawals and now the loss of the Adelaide circuit it seems the series is on its last legs. Unless they change the format significantly to attract more teams & manufacturers, it’ll be gone by June 2021. They lost me when Benz & Nissan pulled out TBH.

For the sake of completeness I’ll add the 580-600hp CanAm M117 & the failed attempt using the AMG 6.8 with modified tunnel rams. Interesting that it was apparently 200hp down compared to other engines. I’d suggest internal restrictions didn’t help.

And this is how they finished M100 6.3 development when the Red Pig was killed off due to capacity limits. Rather disappointing really. They didn’t bother with the 6.9 since the CIS would’ve been a roadblock to manifold modification. And there was very few categories where such a car could be...

Apparently it wasn’t built for CanAm at all, but it did start life as a CanAm McLaren M8F (chassis #4). Word is when they imposed the capacity limit on Touring Cars (thereby killing the Red Pig), AMG turned to other categories...

Comparing pix of the standard engines the red bodied CanAm car DOES appear to be fitted with a highly modified 6.3. Note the offset oil cap and vent on the RH rocker cover...

Thanks to Geoff for finding this unusual one-of-a-kind race car. Seems like it started life as a CanAm car which morphed into a wanna be LeMans prototype. Reported to have 600hp making it the most powerful NA M117! AMG obviously helped develop it at one stage judging by their logo on the high...

Finally got more pix! 450SEL Euro version without AC originally. Current owner had it for 30years! Apparently his kids want it when he goes... Encouraged him to join up, but I doubt he’s tech savvy!
