Today’s activities. Strangely I’m taking great satisfaction in buying various plugs n stoppers to stop contaminants getting into the wrong places. Armed with digital verniers I’ve been to Clark Rubber several times to purchase various rubber products. I had old stock of plastic stoppers etc when...

    SLS Strut Reconditioning

I haven’t used them myself, so I can’t recommend through personal experience, but others on FB have said they’re quite good. $800 for a pair. Perhaps they can even do HPF struts too?? https://www.wwshockabsorbers.com/?fbclid=IwAR1r62h-xhKMEFh4uPsWGRK-MfV3H5cZL-F33gF-Pou3hvtS4yMFyVoaCdw

Well thankfully it seems the rest of the engine looks ok! I’ll take a guess that an extended period of a lack of use during previous ownership led to corrosion deposits blocking the heater connection. Acidic coolant then attacked the area in the vicinity until it broke through the top of the...

    500SLC CanAm Race Car

It looks like that car survives today which makes it rather significant since it seems all of the W109s and other AMG race cars from that era are long gone... 😢

This is the stuff of nightmares for any car enthusiast.... Well my known list included 4 struts and likely 5 cells. Not the end of the world, since I have spares. Brakes would be wise to add to the list, since they're commonly seized. I figured caliper kits for the front and all 4 hoses...

    500SLC CanAm Race Car

I'm not 100% convinced that the pic of the turbo M100 is from this car, since I can't identify any key chassis components in the pic. I can confirm that the engine was a 6,8 with a listed bore of 107mm, stroke of 95mm and capacity of 6834cm3. Oh and I managed to find some more clarity (!) with...

    500SLC CanAm Race Car

Well I dug some more and discovered that the Lausitzring race track nominated as the test track was incorrect, since it seems it wasn't built until 2000. Stranger still that the car was entered in the first 3 races of the 1972 season (Nurburgring 03/04/1972, Imola 01/05/1972 & Silverstone...

Well I finally gave her that long awaited wash & she scrubbed up very nicely. However it didn’t take long during the mechanical repairs for my plans to have it ready for the 27th to be completely scuttled! 🧐😬😢🤬😱 I will forge ahead regardless & if all goes well, she’ll be ready mid December.

    Some fancy 116 wheels

9.5x18” et33 & they were never gunna clear on the rear. 275mm wide tires. Yes they fit, but zero clearance & I will not use spacers. Waaaahhh I sold them to my old man for his E500....

    Mercedes V8 Inlet Manifolds

As you wish Michel! Degreaser & cold pressure wash x 2 + degreaser & warm pressure wash x 1. I could get it even better with a hot wash & scrub but that’s enough for now. I dropped it all off at my fabricator on Monday. 🎉🥳🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

    Brakes Upgrades??

No I’m definitely not the type of nutter that would drill holes in a brake surface. Yes new rotors but even the ones manufactured with holes aren’t that great. I prefer the ATE slotted design, but they’re not easy to find anymore.

    Brakes Upgrades??

Toying with some W140 front brakes. It appears the rotors are around 320x30mm which are slightly bigger than S2 W126. Crossing fingers they might fit without major mods on standard S2 W126 hubs/rotors.

    Some fancy 116 wheels

Reviving an old thread. I think they look very good. Hopefully the back ones fit... 18” for Moby Dick eventually after refinishing. I’m toying with some 18” w129 AMG wheels too, but I think they’re cast since they’re very heavy.
