    79 280SE

This is a thread about my new 280SE. My first step is to change the plugs as its running poorly. As I said in the other thread, I don't plan to keep it long term, but to try and tidy it up over a couple of months and fix a few minor issues it has. However, I am impressed by some of...

    Ad-blue shortage

I suspect if the system can be shut off, there will be no political will to have empty supermarket shelves, and there will be waivers given. Like how they let foreign airlines fly domestic for a few months after the collapse of Ansett.

    Ad-blue shortage

I was reading a doom and gloom article that our entire trucking industry is going to grind to a halt in 8 weeks due to an Ad-blue shortage. This is apparently a fluid used in the emissions system based on diesel grade urea and de-ionized water. Any late model truck is apparently going to...

    Car of the week

It would seem the 2.6 is the one to have, but don't think they brought any in manual out here.

    Car of the week

Love the colour. Just needs those horrible aftermarket chrome arch molds removed. I would imagine the 5 speed transforms the car. I drove an automatic 180E and didn't care for it.

    Car of the week

Some interesting shannons results. Lot 165: 1993 300TE Wagon, $33,500. https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2021-shannons-40th-anniversary-timed-online-auction/Y1C5D0T3QC20ND1N/ There must have been cocaine in the glove box to get this price for a car that was listed as having rust in...

    Car of the week

One for Michel - just needs paint but looks presentable. 560SEL. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/194551382940 Don't think its a 560 - perhaps an import 500? Looks like the interior has been changed too.

107 107's across the Harbour bridge

The final point was a sausage sizzle in a park so that was pretty efficient. Michel was there also, but sadly his R107 failed to proceed so he was in the modern SL.

107 107's across the Harbour bridge

The MBCNSW attempted to drive 107 107's across the harbour bridge today as part of the 50 year celebration. While we probably had half that number, it was a pretty good turn out: https://www.classicjalopy.com/2021/11/107-107s-across-the-harbour-bridge/

    The Rover P5/P5B

This 3.5 Saloon got a max mid of $9k on Lloyds. https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotDetails.aspx?smode=0&aid=27510&lid=3244626&pgn=2&pgs=100 Seems like a decent driver condition car:

Today (26/11) Only: Pirelli Tyres 50% off.

The proof will be when I get the tyres fitted, but it will also allow me to install a set of very nice condition gullideckel wheels I had on my 450SLC onto the SEL with these new tyres and use the wheels that are currently on there with 6 year old Michelins as spare tyres for the SEL, SEC and SLC.

What do yo think is the best Mercedes engine ever? AS the tr

The M110 would be a good candidate. They made massive power for their displacement (185hp) in european spec and they are practically unburstable. Probably the most durable petrol engine Mercedes ever made. The emissions version we got after 1976 was a shadow of its former self though...

Today (26/11) Only: Pirelli Tyres 50% off.

My car tyre and auto (old Kmart tyre) is having a 'black friday' sale - 50% off all Pirelli tyres. Only while stocks last. I just got a set for my 560SEL - I think $268 or a set of four V rated P6s is a pretty good price. I put my order in at 1am to make sure I secured them. They have to...

    Youngtimer Sacco Day

Getting your engine where you want it. e.g. for example, if they have a plane with an engine issue in LAX, they can send a replacement engine over on the next flight from Sydney. That engine is just being transported, so no other connections other than physical are there.

    Youngtimer Sacco Day

Here is a photo of a 5th engine QF 747. Not sure how often they used this capability, I saw one with the 5th engine attached once, I was not on that aircraft but I was on a SYD-USA flight on United airlines and I saw the Qantas aircraft with the 5th engine taxiing. after that I did a bit of...

    Youngtimer Sacco Day

As a highlight, my car parked in front of VH-OJA. VH-OJA was the first 747-400 model for Qantas. The 400 could take a full load of passengers SYD-LAX which was a game changer. Previously they had to take the shortie 747-SP which had poor economics, take a light load, or do a fuel stop. This...

SOLD: 4x Mercedes 14 inch 'Bundt' copies

Set of four ‘Bundt’ wheel copies with tyres. Good but not perfect condition. Tyres have tread but are very old. They are all 205/70 14 95H. The genuine wheels are now hard to find and getting more expensive and these copies look almost identical. They are made in Australia. Were on my 450SLC but...
