    Replacement Wheels & Cleaning

Chrome plating wheels is also an issue and many testers will not approve a RWC with them fitted. Same goes for stainless d shackles for trailer safety chains. They look great but with chromium added to the steel it can make them brittle so they’re unsuitable for heavy duty applications

235 is still ok on a 6.5” rim however the rolling diameter is too small at 638mm vs the std 658mm (more than 15mm). So it seems the only choice is 215 or 225

Personally I’d prefer a higher speed rating than load rating, since you’re never likely to exceed the load. Honestly, unless your tyre blows due to exceeding speed or load, then I’d challenge any denied insurance claim.

FYI going by the GVM (not the placard) the minimum load rating is 91 & the speed rating based on a 260kmh top speed is W or Y. In practical terms a speed rating of S (180kmh) is more than enough however your insurance may disagree

Well there you have it; even the XWX doesn’t have the correct load rating!! Seems like the BFGoodrich in a wider 235 is a better option from an insurance POV. Even the Nankangs have a better load rating than the Michelins!! Seems like nothings available that complies with both load & speed on...

    Tyres

205mm wide is fairly common but the 6.9 needs 215mm as a minimum. My preference would be 225/65R14. I just have to find a tyre which also suits minimum load & speed ratings according to the placard

Seems our 14” tyre choices are even more limited with MAXXIS NLA? Any other options apart from the hugely expensive Michelins??

    Replacement Wheels & Cleaning

Well the 14s are problematic with the lack of tyre choices. 18s are about max diameter to allow for a reasonable sidewall profile, but some wheels are rather heavy compared to the original specs & I worry they could adversely affect the hydro suspension. The heavy cast wheels are also brittle &...

    Fangio and the 6.9

Skye has been sold & has now gone to its new guardian. The ex Kennett green car was posted here because it was rumoured to be the car driven by Fangio, which I’ve proven to be incorrect. Here are the last pix during my ownership.

    6.9 radiators

Hi yes the standard 450 radiator is quite different to even the low comp US or med comp Aussie 6.9 units. The connects for the hoses are on opposite sides at the very least

    Ignition Neglect

Well I put off the job of replacing these spark plugs, because I had to remove to whole intake manifold on the Nissan Dualis, which is a daily driver. I cant remember the service interval, but it might’ve been 100k kms, or even 50k kms. In the blink of an eye 100kkms turned into 230kkm!! The...

    Mercedes V8 Inlet Manifolds

Not exactly manifold specific, however I did drop into my fabricator yesterday. He’s acquired some very specialised equipment which will make the fabrication easier. I gave him an update on the new design & removed the pulley and balancer to install the pulse wheel & sensor. I’m also currently...

    Goldeneye (5694)

Oh I forgot to mention I scored a crashed w140 500SEL 5sp which will donate its trans to Goldeneye when I sort out the other issues & fabricate the adapters. A 6.9 with more gears n paddle shifts would be fun… oh plus a HPF2 upgrade. Rear buckets would’ve been nice but I had to sell the donor car

    Fangio and the 6.9

And after 14 years the fuel tank saga is over & she’s running again!! I’m glad I flushed the hoses, pipes & fuel head before trying to restart cause lots of junk & stale fuel came out. Some of it might've been rust particles, or flaking dried fuel well after it turned into molasses… It would’ve...
