Kia and Hyundai both have had excellent vehicles in the last 5-7 years.

I have always called them the Toyotas of Korea.
Reliable and well priced.

I didn't think anything of them other than rubbish and junk and other thoughts. Then work got a few i30 for CI and other remote sites. Drove them then bought a deceased estate 2000 Hyundai Accent which I have recently sold to my niece. It is the most reliable car I have ever owned bar none. I used to leave it at the airport for 10 plus weeks at a time it always started first turn of the key. After this experience I would not hesitate in buying a new one with that kind of warranty as a daily driver. It would seal the decision with capped price servicing for 7 years and warranty. :D

After realising I need a sedan that is safe and reliable for trips to see my daughters. When I move east. I decided to follow my own advise and make a head decision. The Abyss Blue Kia Cerato 6 speed Manual at top rite is now mine I pick it up Thursday. Oh and start driving over Friday. I could have got a White Si Koupe for the same price heart said yes head said no. Sedan it must be. As Girls still need child seat and booster seat. http://www.ahg.com.au/wa/cars/searc...l&type=New&make=KIA&model=Cerato#1450.K336322

My sister-in-law bought one a few months ago. It is her second one, the last one she had for 10 years from new. Only problem it ever gave was the A/C TX valve, but because it is up under the dash, they wanted $2,000 to replace it. She never had it fixed as a result.

Yes with 7 year unlimited km warranty now. And capped price services for that period. It really makes it a no brainer . The Hyundai work had are the most reliable cars I have ever seen. And Kia is owned by Hyundai . cerato sedan is same car as elantra

Why do Manufacturers give such a long Warranty ?
Well for one they don't anticipate any Claims, and it also ties Owners to the Dealerships. Big opportunities to upsell additional items at every visit.
I declined VW's offer of Fixed Service Prices for the same reason on my new Mk 7 Golf. Nothing is needed for the first three years at normal Kls except an oil change and a Filter. Local Guy can do it and stamp the book... $100 .Just buy some Genuine VW Filters at $17 each, so that The Dealer cant' tell you that the non Genuine Filter was the cause of a Coil failing under Warranty!
My Golf at 18 months has been 100% trouble free, more than I could say for our C Class Merc for the first three and a half years. Back and back for a no start condition , oil leaks, Transmission hick ups etc. The Car had no Dealer Stamps and the Law says they must honour the Warranty as long as the Car has been Serviced by a licenced Workshop. For me $100 to $150 each year.
To their credit the Dealer (in Alexandra ) stuck with it and eventually sorted everything out. Out of Warranty.... find a good Specialist for the Brand.

Its the 7 years warranty. That swayed me as I normally don't go to dealer for service. Plus as I said seeing how I30 stood up to Christmas Island abuse . Made me reassess opinion. On Hyundai and Kia twins. But I wanted a Manual the same as you Sean .

Well Kia, and Hyunday for that matter, are putting up strong cases for future purchases. Julie bought her Honda Jazz two years ago (trouble free) and it has now had three or four services with the Trivetts, the Honda Dealer at Parramatta. The cost has been about $300.00 each time. The car has now done 28K. kilometres from new.

On two occasions, we noticed that the tyres had not been rotated. That's now been attended to last two services. After the first service, car came back washed and vacuumed - not that it was really needed. However, we appreciated the attention to detail, so to speak. Second last service, the car had a 'rough' wash, but I ignored it. Last Friday, date of latest service, the car came back absolutely filthy, with water smear marks all over the car, and the screen was badly smudged to the extent, that it was almost unsafe to drive the car into a setting afternoon sun.

Rang Trivetts and complained - assured that person responsible would be spoken to. Queried cost of service - we charge what Honda recommends. It looks as though Trivetts will have to come up with some pretty fancy deals when the car goes in for the next service. Just our somewhat unsatisfactory experience. Regards Styria

N.B. Sean, I am very impressed with your VW experience, although I am still wary of cars with the indicator lever on the left of the steering column.

Understandable but not a cause for concern. That is where the indicator stalk is on all of my cars and it is never an issue. Humans are generally reasonably adaptable mammals and learn very quickly. However, when someone drive the Spirit II or PV for the first time I watch like an eagle until I am sure they won't use the gear lever on the right as an indicator and send the gearbox into meltdown....
A dirty car from Trivetts after a service? Hmmmm. Inchcape perhaps have a bit to learn about how to look after customers.
You could always complain here; http://www.inchcape.com.au/html/contactus/
Regards,
Brian
Edit: Nothing wrong with either Kia or Hyundai. And you get a full-sized spare as well! That is of great importance to me.

Seven year Warranty..... as I understand , it is the Statuary 3 year which must be honoured as long as the Car has been Serviced by a Licensed Workshop. Anything after that is subject to the Car being Serviced by a Dealership at their whim. Every 6 months perhaps ?? $$$$$$$$$$.

To private owners with 7 year road side assist. http://www.kia.com.au/owners/7-year-unlimited-km-warranty
