We bought one for Paula to drive (with beige interior) and she loves it!
We get about 5.5-6 litre per 100kms.

Wow!
I don't recall the hybrid costing $32k more than the regular car, so either they were seriously squeezing their margins or more likely there is some serious gouging going on with the replacement parts price.

Just checked, in 2013, the price was:

2013 Mercedes-Benz E250 CDI Auto $98,900
2013 Mercedes-Benz E300 BlueTEC HYBRID Auto $108,900

The E250D and the E300D share the same 2.1liter diesel motor according to the specs, so for $10k you get the battery, hybrid control system, electric motor etc.

I wonder how much they are charging for the part in europe. The local subsidiary seems to have its own creating charging as far as I can tell.

There are Specialists supplying both, new and reconditioned batteries. Here and in the wider World. The Mercedes battery should be covered by the Warranty Laws of this Country. The wording is that a product should have a reasonable Life Span as a Customer would expect when they bought the product. (Our Fisher and Pykal Dryer is in this situation after multiple Service Calls to fix the heater issue.) This is in excess of any standard factory Warranty.
Toyota Batteries have an eight year warranty.

Should not have any problem with Mercedes... They eventually fixed my Electrical/Battery issues when the car was well out of the 3 year Warranty.
The car had never been Serviced by a Dealer. But by a Licenced Mechanic as the Law stipulates which complies with the terms of the Warranty.
But I had to complain to Mercedes in Melbourne to sharpen their reflexes.
Loudest squeak gets the most Oil !

Very interesting article explaining the Atkinson/ Miller Cycle engine development in currant Toyota Hybrids and why it works for them and now in many others including Mercedes. Atkinson developed it in the late 18 hundreds and Miller in the USA post world 11 War modified it. See Wikipedia.

Sean, I really think that you will like your new Camry. I have seen pics of it, and it really looks absolutely smashing, and being Japanese built, quality will not, or should never, be an issue. Are you getting the 4 cylinder version, or the V6 which, of course, is a fair bit higher priced than the 4.

Having regard to the fact that Sedans, to all intents and purpose, are no longer in demand when compared to the horde of SUVs, will the Camry be able to reverse the trend, and how will it compare to the KIA Stinger or the new Commodores - also fantastic looking. We may be in for an interesting time. Regards Styria

The V6 is not available as a Hybrid Michael. The 6 is also a new design. Like our 4 Cyl. Turbo C Class I prefer the 4 Cyl. to the 6. Not as smooth but good Torque low down. Australia does not have high speed Roads which suit the Multi Cyl. Engines. My understanding is that the Hybrid Electric Motor serves the same purpose as a Turbo, for acceleration and over taking. In Sport Mode the Camry gets up and goes !

Hmmm - rather like fusion cooking?
I would prefer the name fusion to hybrid but I guess that will frighten the horses as some will think it related to nuclear fusion. Now there's a power worth pursuing.
