According to this catalog/brochure the badge was not available without 2 or more external pieces. Not a guarantee of authenticity, but it certainly helps to know...

Correct & you’re officially ‘allowed’ to fit a boot badge!

Does it really matter who fitted the genuine parts? Is it necessary to have paid an authorised AMG retailer back in the 80s to fit the SAME components?

And I’d suggest your engine mods are better than anything done by AMG back in the day...

No it was only 2 or more external mods. Although the mats weren’t cheap...

Some are refuting this assessment & state you could unofficially buy a badge without any other mods. And that this brochure was produced by a retailer in the US. And that body kits alone do not classify as a true AMG.

Personally if it’s in print, then it’s official. AMG would not be happy if a retailer did anything outside their internal policies & they would risk being stripped of the right to sell AMG gear.

Interesting that I recently discovered info that AMG didn’t do much engine R&D & that it was subcontracted to Melcher (the ‘M’ in AMG) when he went his own way to create the MB tuner MKB.
