John - yes, degreasers need to be Ph neutral or close to it. I stay with hydrocarbon-based products to be safe - kerosine on a brush isa as good as any spray can. I am aware that there are also a range of highly acidic or alkaline products and advise against these as they will remove greases...

Ah, how long is a piece of string? The process of engine cleaning depends on how many electricals are exposed. I suggest it is essential to cover the alternator in a plastic bag tied tightly with string to stop water penetration - computers likewise - and possibly the distributor. If HT leads...

Michel -it's yours. Just imagine the fun you can have with a manual 250 CDI; gear changes at 4000 rpm. Perhaps not.... Strangely the engine shot shows the plastic cowling over the battery and including the air intake to the cabin filter is missing - as is the main engine cover. Why, I wonder...
