You wouldn't be tempted to hold out for a S500? I would have thought the 500 engine suits the character of the car more than the 320 that will need to work much harder to move its bulk around. Having said that, this car looks nice, albeit quite expensive.
While S500 is desirable W140 is a car that must be bought on condition not spec . And I wouldn't look at any before series 2 update . First version even from new had evac issues that will cost more than purchase price to fix . If looking at one and Air-conditioning doesn't work . Walk away MB quote over 100 hours to replace evac . At current labour rates that's close to $10000 before parts
Hi Benzboy 96 and look for updated bumpers that are not as square. Removal of parking post on top of rear guards. 5 speed auto replacing 4 speed. But quickest way to tell is the change to climate control unit to unit shared with W210 and other models.
And if you need a new CC head unit I have one I bought for the CLK in anticipation of it being repaired after the paint incident. Needless to say it is no longer useful to me.
Unlike the ebay sellers I don't want a kidney for it!
I must say my S500 has redefined the meaning of a refined ride to me. Likely because of the low K's, or in spite of them, it is just amazing. It's like sitting in 1K on a Singapore Airlines A380. I prefer the right wing
Having driven a Bogan Mercedes a C215 and a W220 . As well as owning a W140 . My impression is thus. The W140 is quieter to travel in but is heavier so less dynamic to drive. Part of this serenity would be down to the famed double glazing. The W140 is very much a Bruno Sacco design all business . While the W220 was a completely new design direction for Mercedes very lithe and dynamic. I see Bruno also credited with the design but I remember reading at time of release it was credited to an Australian designer. So maybe final details were his. As Peter Arcadipane was responsible for original SLK, C215 CL and Original CLS . And that's why I call them Bogan edition's. As Peter also designed the Mad Max Interceptor early in his career.

Funny you should mention 1K
