Greetings from snowy Hobart
I have a "moribund" unregistered W116 280SE sitting in my driveway which I need to move on. White with brown tex interior. I bought it for some body panels for my 350SE but then promptly sold the 350SE without having used any of the bits. Oops. (Wife laughs heartily and expresses admiration for husband's clarity of thought!)
Indicated mileage is 312,500 odd.
Except for one trim bar off the grille the car is complete and was running when I got it although not registered. Last time I sought to start it it refused, but I suspect that is just plugs (have been too lazy to look into it further). The previous owner told me that the only major mechanical problem is the auto transmision which is slipping badly.
Body work is quite good with very little rust so far as I can see. The only obvious panel damage is a crease in the front passenger side door resulting from a failed check strap. Even the paintwork (white) is not too bad, except for a fairly large crack on the bonnet. The interior is quite tidy with good carpets and upholstery and even the dash is only moderately cracked.
If someone with skills wanted a reasonable W116 at modest cost, this would probably come up OK without huge expenditure.
Alternatively if someone needs any bits, let me know.
If I can clear $200 out of this I will look less silly than I do now.
Call Craig on 0412 431 096 if interested in any of this!
Best wishes
Crado (W123 300D and 230E)
